Divorcing parents with children must complete a divorce orientation class and a divorce education class before their divorce can be finalized. Utah Code Sections 30-3-11.3, 30-3-11.4, 30-3-4(1)(c).

The purpose of the education course is to educate and sensitize divorcing parents to the needs of their children both during and after the divorce.

These classes can now be taken online, as of May of this year.

The online and DVD classes must be through an approved provider and in an interactive format.

These classes are intended to give divorcing parents information about resources to help them understand the needs of their children.

I would suggest parents think about taking the classes live. I believe there are intangible benefits from being in a class with others who are similarly situated, and having the opportunity for more personal interaction with class providers. But the option for taking both classes online is now available.
